Sri Lankan Navy apprehended eleven fishermen from Rameswaram Tamil Nadu and detained their two fishing boats last night. Fishermen association said that the fishermen from Tamil Nadu were taken to Kankesanthurai in Sri Lanka.
This has created tension in fishermen hamlets in the state. Eleven fishermen from Rameswaram who were fishing near Neduntheevu were apprehended by Sri Lankan Navy yesterday.
Earlier last Wednesday two fishermen from Nagapattinam and Karaikkal were injured in firing by Sri Lankan Navy. Local fishermen are urging the government to secure the immediate release of fellow fishermen and more than 120 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.
