The country is likely to receive normal monsoon rainfall this summer despite the portent of a potentially menacing Pacific Ocean phenomenon called El Nino, said the India Meteorological Department said on Friday, sticking to its forecast from April.
The IMD said, the country as a whole would receive 96 per cent of the long-period average rainfall over the four-month monsoon season from June through September. It also predicted “below normal” rainfall and “above normal” temperatures during June.
Several areas of Delhi-NCR, however, witnessed heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds this morning. According to the India Meteorological Department, thunderstorms along with rain and gusty winds having speeds of 40 to 70 kilometers per hour will continue in Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas during the next two hours.
