NDA Presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind today filed his nomination for Presidential Election in Parliament House. Three set of nomination were filed on his behalf.
Speaking to reporters after filing the nomination papers, Mr Kovind said, office of president is the highest constitutional post and in the past it has been adorned by eminent personalities like Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr Radhkrishnan, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.
He said, the office of President is not a political post and it should be kept beyond politics. Mr Kovind said, he will try constant development of the country to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Stating that the post of President is above party politics, he thanked all those who supported him, asserting that he will try to maintain the dignity of the post.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, BJP veterans Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, Chief Ministers of some BJP ruled states and NDA allies ruled states and the heads of some other parties supporting Mr Kovind’s candidature were also present on the occasion.
Opposition candidate for the post Ms Meira Kumar is excepted to file her nomination on 27th of this month. 28th June is the last date for filing the nomination. The election for the President post is scheduled for 17th of next month and counting of votes will take place on 20th of July.
