US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that North Korea will receive investments from the US, if its leaders accept complete, irreversible and verifiable denuclearization.

Pompeo also said the US will have to provide security assurances to the North. Pompeo was speaking on the US networks Fox and CBS on Sunda. He indicated that if the country complies with US demands on denuclearization, sanctions will be lifted and private US capital will be provided in sectors such as electricity and agriculture.

Pompeo added that the US can create conditions for the North Korean people to prosper that will rival that of the South, although no public funds will be provided.

He expressed hope that North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un will reach a decision on denuclearization when he meets US President Donald Trump in Singapore next month.

Speaking about his visit last week to North Korea, Pompeo indicated that he discussed with Kim how to proceed with denuclearization.
Meanwhile the National Security Advisor to US President Donald Trump has said that North Korea needs to scrap not only nuclear arms, but also ballistic missiles, as well as biological and chemical weapons.

John Bolton made the remark on Sunday in an interview on the ABC TV program, “This Week”.

He said the denuclearization of North Korea is absolutely at the core of the upcoming US-North Korean summit. Bolton said there will be a range of things to discuss, but he indicated that the United States will not compromise with the North on this issue.

Bolton said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the North’s entire regime need to make a strategic decision that they will be better off without weapons of mass destruction.
He was also asked about possible benefits provided to the North in return, including the lifting of sanctions.
Bolton said permanent and irreversible denuclearization has to happen “before the benefits start to flow.”
