Taking a tough stand on various bank scams, that took place in recent days, the Congress party today demaded prime minister Narendra Modi to make a statement in Parliament on the steps being taken to bring the accused in these frauds back to India.

Talking to media persons here, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and Deputy leader of the Congress Anand Sharma said, ‘Congress members had given notice under Rule 267 to discuss the issue of bank scam by setting aside all other business in the house.

However, the government is running away from its responsibility to provide to people details about these frauds. The Prime Minister should have himself given a clarification in thus regard. However, it did not happen.’

He said that scam after scam are happening in the country and the fraudsters are fleeing overseas by robbing the hard earned money of people.
Alleging the closeness of the main accused of the PNB scam Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi to the PM, Mr Sharma said ,’while Nirav Modi is featured in a photograph in Davos in the same frame as the PM. The other accused, Mehul Choksi is invited by the Prime Minister in a meeting at his residence where he is addressed by the PM by name. This showed Mr Modi’s close connection with him.’

He wondered if it was because of this reason that action was not being taken against them.’ The BJP claims that Mr Modi is the most popular leader of the world. If this is the case then why does he not use his popularity to bring back the four accused who fled the country after the scams,’ Mr Azad asked.

Azad said the country wants to know what the government is doing to bring Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, Jatin Mehta and Lalit Modi back to India.
