The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi being briefed about the Smart Cities Mission, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Housing for All Mission, in New Delhi on June 25, 2015. The Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu is also seen.Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched three flagship schemes to enhance quality of life in Urban India. Launching the scheme in New Delhi  PM said that   the government wanted to preserve the dreams under which all citizens prosper under a democratic system.

The three projects are Smart Cities Mission, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, AMRUT and Housing For All. The schemes will be an important milestone for urban development in the country. Speaking about the schemes, Mr Modi said every person dreams of having his or her own home and his government is committed to fulfill that dream.

Speaking on the occasion, Urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu said this is a red letter day for transforming Urban India. Mr Naidu said under the Housing for All mission in urban areas, two crore houses would be built over the next seven years.

The 48,000 crore rupee Smart City mission is aimed at applying smart solutions to improve infrastructure and service delivery in the cities. The idea is to develop the overall quality of life for citizens and make these cities as role models for others to follow. The cities will be selected through competition.The AMRUT mission, worth 50,000 crore rupees, aims at infrastructure development of 500 cities with population of over one lakh. It ensures basic infrastructure like sanitation, drinking water, solid and waste management and transport.

Housing For All mission will enable decent houses to all the needy, particularly the economically weaker sections and low income group. The mission will be taken up in all the 4041 notified towns across the country. 2 crores house will be built for urban poor with central assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.3 lakh

Remembering Emergency on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said nobody can forget June 25-26 when the nation was turned into a jail and bound with chains of Emergency for lust of power 40 years back.

Mr Modi said, during the emergency, lakhs of people were imprisoned, the press was censored and the radio only spoke what the Government wanted. Mr Modi said, the decision to set up a memorial for Jai Prakash Narayan will always inspire those who love democracy.
