It clarified that the work of SPP starts only after filing of charge-sheet in the Trial Court and the Malegaon blasts case is yet to reach that stage. NIA said, it is wrong to infer that the SPP was being bypassed for court appearances. The NIA also said that the concerned reporter should have approached it for hearing its version before filing a one-sided story.

An English daily today reported quoting the Special Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian that the NIA had asked her to go soft on the accused after the BJP-led Government assumed power. She said, an NIA officer met her last year and asked her to go soft on the accused. Meanwhile, the Congress demanded the removal of NIA DG and launched a sharp attack on NDA government over remarks of Rohini Salian. Party spokesperson Ajay Maken demanded the probe by NIA into the case should be monitored by the Supreme Court or High Court saying the party has no faith in the ongoing investigations.
