Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said people of India have a lot of faith in the judiciary and this is a big asset for the nation. He was addressing the gathering at the inauguration of Joint Conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts in New Delhi. Mr Modi said NDA government is thinking of removing laws that are obsolete and outdated. The Prime Minister assured that he will hear the issues concerning the judiciary and work with the judges to find solutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Law Minister Sadananda Gowda expressed concerns over growing pendency and number of under trials in country. He said, Centre and the states spent 2000 crore rupees per annum in the last three years for development of infrastructure. He said, government is aiming to establish 20,000 court houses in near future.

Saying that Indian economy and population have grown, Chief Justice of India, T S Thakur made a strong case for increasing the strength of judges in the country. He stressed that efficacy of judicial system vitally connected with development of country. He said it has been resolved to appoint retired judges on ad hoc basis to deal with pendency of cases.
