Press Council of India (PCI) has demanded an independent inquiry in the death of Uttar Pradesh journalist Jagendra Singh. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, PCI chairman justice C K Prasad said that the probe which is being conducted by the state government is not enough to unravel the truth behind the death.

Mr Prasad said, the Council will forward its report to the state government and ask for the action taken report from the state government.

The Committee has also recommended that there should be special law for assault of journalists and it should be made cognizable and non bailable offence.
