Over 73 thousand people are reeling under the fury of flood in Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Dhemaji and Kokrajhar district of Assam,. Surface communications have been snapped at several areas due to flood. Official sources said that nearly 200 villages have been affected in current surge of water.
NDRF and SDRF teams have been pressed into services in worst hit Sonitpur district where 139 villages are affected. The Brahmaputra and it’s tributaries are maintaining a rising trend at several places. Around 8 thousand people are staying at as many relief camps in Sonitpur district. Surging water also submerged One thousand 600 hectares of crop land. Flood waters breached embankments in Lakhimpur and Sonitpur districts.
