One militant was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces on the outskirts of Srinagar’s Zakura area. The encounter between state police and militants and subsequent anti militancy operation has ended now.
The operation began yesterday evening after militants fired at a police party in Zakura locality.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police Central Kashmir Range Ghulam Hassan Bhat told media that Police launched search operation on a specific information about presence of two militants in the Gosu Zakura area of Srinagar outskirts.
The hiding militant in a house fired indiscriminately upon police personnel resulting into an encounter. Later after some time one Lashkar e Toiba militant, was killed. DIG said the slain militant was active in south and other areas for the past over ten years.
It is believed the slain militant may have traveled to hide in Srinagar while another militant fled from the area. There was no report of any fatal causality or injury to any police personnel in the operation.
