All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani has praised Muslims in Ujjain, particularly women who participated in the protest, for their peaceful resistance to the alleged attempt to demolish part of the Shahi Mosque.
Rahmani said the protesters stood firm before the administration and police and opposed a proposal to voluntarily demolish around three feet of the mosque, reportedly after pressure was put on its management. He alleged that police used lathicharge and tear gas to disperse the protesters, with FIRs registered and several youths detained.
The AIMPLB president also raised concerns over the earlier demolition of a mosque in Ujjain’s Nizamuddin locality in connection with the Mahakal Corridor project, alleging that a neighbouring colony was not similarly affected.
Rahmani said authorities should respect the Places of Worship Act, 1991, and the legal status of Waqf properties. He urged Muslims to pursue their rights through peaceful, democratic, constitutional and legal means rather than resorting to emotional or violent reactions.
