Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) weekly monsoon disease report stated that Mumbai is witnessing a rise in cases of influenza H1N1 (swine flu). In the past three weeks, the city recorded 51 confirmed cases of viral infection, an increase from the 18 cases reported for September. Before that, August reported 116 cases of viral infection, and July registered 106.

BMC alerted the citizens that the prevalence of influenza could be increased due to changes in the climate of the city.

BMC appealed to citizens to take necessary precautions, use masks, avoid crowded places and wash hands regularly. In October, BMC surveyed more than 8 lakh 55 thousand houses in the town and screened more than 42 lakh 75 thousand citizens for flu-like symptoms.

However, The dengue and Malaria cases are declining in Mumbai as compared to last month. In September, the city registered 1,313 malaria cases and 492 dengue cases. However, the city reported  680 malaria and 737 dengue cases till the 22nd  of October.
