While declaring the educational institution open, Mulayam praised UP minister Mohd Azam Khan for his role in establishment of the grand educational institution and asked him to begin a medical college soon under the university.
The former CM said Khan had rendered “an unmatched service for the upliftment of the community and society.”
Calling it a historical moment, he said that the role of Maulana Mohd. Ali Jauhar and his brother Shaukat Ali was very significant in the freedom struggle, Mr. Yadav said that the way to development was education. He also called for more educational institutes for minorities. He also requested the Chief Minister to consider opening up of a medical college in the university. He further said that after the Aligarh Muslim University, Rampur will now be remember for the Jauhar university.
Mulayam, also used the occasion for a veiled attack at then Governor T V Rajeshwar. “I had advised ‘him’ to sign the file related to the Jauhar University. But it did not happen, it was forwarded,” said Mulayam in reference to the Raj Bhawan’s objection to the university in 2004.
On the occasion, Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav said some elements had tried to hinder the institution’s development.
“It was Azam Khan’s courage and struggle that the University came into existence with all the required grandeur of an educational institution,” he said, adding that the society which has the greatest number of educated pupils can avail of maximum political awareness.
Chief Minister said that his government would do all that was possible for the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. “No stone will be left unturned to make it a world class education, and roadblocks faced by the varsity would be cleared. The education excellence of the university shall be maintained at all costs”, he stated.
Urban development minister Azam Khan in his address called Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav ‘Rafeequl Mulk’ and said that he would always remain indebted to him. Lamenting the fact that all efforts were done to finish the project Mr. Azam Khan said that in adverse conditions too he did not give up his dream of the university.
Known for his oratory skills, Khan became emotional in his address and was in tears twice. Khan lashed out at his political adversary, the Nawab family of Rampur for keeping Rampur backward, while lauding Mulayam and Akhilesh.
“When the CM asked me what should he announce at the function, I had only said that let there be a bond of faith. You become mine and I turn yours, this is all I want,” said Khan.
All citizens of the country have equal right on this university he added. He also felicitated Mr. Aman Sharma who donated 6 beegha land for the university.
Dr. Lukman Khan, Vice Chancellor of the university said that the power of education can eliminate all prevailing ills in the society. The occasion was graced by PWD Minister Mr. Shivpal Singh Yadav, Revenue Minister Mr. Ambika Chowdhary and many other ministers.
UP 43 ministers, including Shivpal Yadav, Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, Mehboob Ali were present at the inauguration function.
