Ashoora-e-Muharram is being observed with due reverence and solemnity in various parts of India today. The day marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad and his companions who laid down their lives in Karbala for upholding truth, righteousness and justice.

Tazia processions are being taken out to mark the occasion. Religious meetings highlighting the supreme sacrifice of Karbala Martyrs are also being held.

In Uttar Pradesh, Yaume Ashura is being observed to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Husain​ in capital Lucknow and at other places of the state​.​ The police has made elaborate security arrangements in view of ‘Yaume Ashura’ all over the state. Lucknow district administration has made large-scale security arrangements for religious processions, which are being taken out today. Over twenty companies of PAC and RAF have been deployed in Lucknow​ ​at marked routes of the procession. More than 6,000 police personnel and several drones with live satellite feed are patrolling and guarding the city so that mourners can observe the Muharram peacefully.​

​”​Thousand of ​mourners in black attire are part of the procession which began from Imabada of Nazim Sahab in Chowk this ​forenoon. The procession is gradually heading towards Talkatora Karbala where it will culminate.

Azadaar or mourners are beating their chest and singing soulful mourning songs to remember the Imam ​Husain ​who lost everything fighting for uprightness and truth. Grief stricken and saddened, some of the mourners are also holding Alam and small Tazia in their hands to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Husain. In the evening, a Sham-e- Ghariban or the evening of utmost destitution depicting the grief and plight of companions of Imam Husain, will also be observed in Imambara Ghufranmaab today.
