Leaders from different political parties today attended Iftar party hosted by Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi. JDU Chief Sharas rtied Yadav and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah were among those attended the party. Pakistan Ambassador to India, Abdul Basit was also present on the occasion. The event ahead of Monsoon Session of Parliament is being seen as an attempt to put a united front by the opposition parties against the NDA government. However, the absence of RJD Chief Lalu Prasad, who used to be a close confidant of Sonia Gandhi, was the talking point in political circles.
Earlier, replying to a question on the absence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee and RJD Chief , Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken said such sort of gatherings should not be seen through political prism.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has said his party will raise the issue of corruption during the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament. Mr Gandhi was replying to a query on being asked if he will raise issue of corruption in Parliament. Mr Gandhi said, he will raise bunch of other issues during the session. Mr Gandhi, however, did not further elaborate on this.
The Congress is expected to raise the Lailt Modi controversy and Vyapam scam issue. Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and leaders from Left parties did not attended the Iftar.
