In Manipur, the situation of COVID-19 pandemic has become worse day by day with more people who do not have travel history are becoming positive of the virus through local transmission.
The 14-day complete lockdown and curfew is underway in the state and situation of local transmission of COVID-19 has made the city of Imphal lifeless. People avoid venturing out to the public places and roads while people stand in long queues at most of the COVID-19 testing centres in the state.
The recent local transmission of COVID-19 in Manipur was reported first in Thoubal district after some quarantine centre’s volunteers got the virus from quarantine inmates.
After that incident, now the report of local transmission is reported at many places of Manipur and other government offices including State Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Manipur University.
State’s reputed hospitals -Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences and many District Hospitals have also reported positive of in-patients, doctors and other healthcare staff through local transmission.
These hospitals have now restricted their healthcare services to the patients and initiated contact tracing and testing of COVID-19. District Administrations are issuing a number of notices in a day declaring many places as Containment Zone and people in long lines are seen at many COVID testing centres.
Considering the trends of local transmission, the State Government has initiated more strict complete lockdown and curfew throughout the state. More people are found positive of the virus every day compared to the number of discharged patients, thus dipping the recovery rate.
