bihar journalsit murderAzharuddin Beg aka Laddan Mian, a prime accused in the sensational murder of a journalist in Siwan Bihar, surrendered before court today. Laddan Mian, who had been evading arrest since the gruesome killing of Rajdeo Ranjan, Bureau Chief of a leading Hindi daily on May 13, surrendered before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

Laddan Mian had allegedly given contract to eliminate the journalist, who was gunned down a day before his 17th marriage anniversary. His involvement in the crime came to light after the arrest of five youths, including shooter Rohit Kumar, who spilled the beans during the interrogation. Laddan Mian is considered a close aide of former MP and jailed RJD leader Mohammad Sahabuddin.

Police said Laddan Mian surrendered due to mounting pressure and the move to attach his movable and immovable properties in Siwan. A local court had also issued warrant of arrest against him on May 27.

Incidentally, Laddan Mian surrendered on the day the state police has to file replies before Patna High Court on his petition in which he said he apprehends threat to his life from the police and illegal confinement of his wife. A Division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari and Justice Chakradhari Sharan had asked the DGP and the Siwan SP to file replies today.
