The latest spell of rains and snowfall has disrupted normal life in Jammu & Kashmir since yesterday. There was heavy snowfall across Kashmir region since last evening till morning hours today. However, the weather improved since this morning that allowed air traffic services to operate as normal. Since morning there was no rains or major snowfall during the day.

snowfall-gkThe intermittent rainfall has been reported from Srinagar and other areas in Kashmkir Valley. Fresh snowfall of the depth of nearly 12 inches was reported from Jawahar Tunnel, Banihal, Qazigund and Aharbal areas.

The weather department had predicted fresh spell of moderate to heavy snowfall to occur between 4th to 6th February. Due to heavy rains and triggering of landslides, the Doda Batote Road in Jammu province has been closed for all kinds of traffic.

The Srinagar Jammu national highway continued to remain closed for vehicular traffic for the 3rd consecutive day today. In view of intermittent rain and snowfall and triggering of landslides and shooting stones in nearly a dozen areas no movement of traffic on both sides will be allowed

Parking of vehicles is prohibited in dangerous avalanche prone zones between Jawahar Tunnel south portal to Nowgam village and between Jawahar Tunnel to Lower Munda. The travelers have been asked to contact Traffic Control Units and designated traffic officials in Srinagar, Ramban and Jammu for the status of the road.
