Five terrorists were killed in an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Sugoo Hendhama Village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district in the wee hours today. Official sources said that a joint team comprising of Shopian Police, 44 Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Sugoo village after getting a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area.
As the joint team of security forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon them which was effectively retaliated triggering an encounter that resulted into the elimination of terrorists. The identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained. The operation has now ended.
This is the third encounter in Shopian district that has erupted between the security forces and the terrorists in this week. Earlier, nine terrorists including top Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) Commanders were killed in two separate encounters at Reban and Pinjura villages of Shopian district on 7th and 8th of this month.
