AIADMK General Secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa filed her nomination for by-election to RK Nagar assembly constituency scheduled for June 27. Senior members of her party and cabinet ministers accompanied her. The last date for filing nominations is June 10, and for withdrawal it is June 13.
Counting of votes is scheduled for June 30. Several parties including DMK, MDMK, and PMK have decided not to contest the poll. CPI said it will contest the election with the support of CPI (M). BJP said it will announce its decision tomorrow.
The by-election was necessitated due to the resignation of AIADMK member Vetrivel after the Karnataka High Court acquitted Ms. Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case.
