Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that Future mobility is about striving towards environment-friendly, integrated, automated and personalized travel on-demand.

He said, new advancements like intelligent transportation systems, and traffic management applications are in the pipeline for enhanced mobility in major cities. He was speaking at the 13th Urban Mobility India Conference on the theme of Emerging Trends in Urban Mobility in New Delhi today.

Addressing the Conference, the Minister said that in the aftermath of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, India is likely to experience a behavioral change in urban mobility. This crisis also presents an opportunity to guide the recovery of urban transport towards long-term development goals. Mr Puri said, as articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the present crisis should be turned into an opportunity to create an Atmanirbhar Bharat and the time being ripe enough to make bold decisions and investments.

Later briefing media, Secretary of Housing and Urban Affairs Durga Shankar Mishra said that this time the Urban Mobility conference was organized on digital platform in view of the Corona pandemic. He said, the Ministry has also prepared a master plan for a 200-kilometre Cycle and Pedestrian Path in South Delhi. He said, out of the 200-kilometre route , sanction for 36-kilometre path has already been given and Delhi Development has started its work on it.
