Sessions judge P R Patel will pronounce the judgment on Tuesday in the Sabarmati Central Jail where all the accused are lodged since 2002.
Talking to media in the Join commissioner of police Satish Sharma said: “we have tightened the security at all the sensitive pockets in the city as well as the central jail where the verdict will be pronounced” adding that effective action would be taken against those who try to create disharmony or incite people.
On Friday, the city police commissioner had also issued a notification imposing restrictions on the print and electronic media from using riots footage or pictures that may hurt the sentiments of any community on February 22. Offenders of the notice would be punished under the IPC 188, a non-bailable offence.
“We have also called for an SP, 3 DySP, 10 police inspectors and 500 jawans from various other police headquarters. Also, 15 Police Control Room (PCR) vans, 3 Quick Response Team (QRT) will be on patrol duty. The police personnel will be at their respective positions from 10 am,” Sharma added.
On February 27, 2002, 58 Karsevaks were burnt to death when the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express in which they were travelling caught fire. It was alleged that some Muslims torched the coach triggering widespread communal riots across the state, claiming over 2000 lives.
