Gujarat government on Tuesday decided to waive off Rs 650 crore pending non-payment of agricultural, residential or commercial power connection.
State Power minister Saurabh Patel made this announcement in Gandhinagar.
Mr. Patel also announced that even after several amnesty schemes, these poor customers were not able to make payment of pending power bills, and therefore, the state government has decided to announce the one-time settlement.
It is to be noted that as many as 6.22 lakh power connection in rural Gujarat is non-functional for pending non-payment of bills in power theft cases. As per announcement, on payment of only 500 rupees, the entire pending sum of power bill and its interest will be waived.
