The investigation into the Mumbai serial blasts have revealed its usage in carrying out the terror attack. A law to regulate the sale of ammonium nitrate has been pending with the law ministry.

Home Ministry sources said that government is concerned over the use of ammonium nitrate, a widely available fertilizer which is also used in the mining industry, is vigorously pushing for amendments to the Explosives Act, 1884 for regulating its use.

The relevant amendments could be taken up in the monsoon session of Parliament.

Over the past four years, terror organisations have used ammonium nitrate in the serial blasts in Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Varanasi and Jaipur. It has been proposed that ammonium nitrate sale be restricted for agricultural proposes and possession other than that be made an offence under the Explosives Act.
