Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu today asked the MPs in Parliamentary Panels having conflict of interest to declare it on their own. Replying to a media query in New Delhi, Mr. Naidu said it is mandatory for them as per the Parliamentary rules.
Mr. Naidu’s remarks came in the wake of BJP MP Shyama Charan Gupta’s alleged conflict of interest in the Parliamentary panel on increasing pictorial warning on tobacco products. Earlier, Mr. Gupta had said there is no link between tobacco and cancer which erupted controversy.
