Bangladesh’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Thursday said that the Election Commission (EC) will implement reforms that are urgently required and fall within its jurisdiction ahead of the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections.

Speaking to the media after a meeting with the newly appointed Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Ryle, at the Nirbachan Bhavan in Dhaka, the CEC said, “We will carry out the reforms that are immediately needed, possible before the election, and within the EC’s jurisdiction.” He added that political reform issues will be addressed by the National Consensus Commission, as they lie beyond the scope of the EC.

Nasir Uddin said the Australian envoy had inquired about the EC’s election preparations and reform plans and assured of support if needed. He also briefed her on the progress in updating the voter list, procurement advancements, legal reforms, and party registrations.
