Eid was celebrated throughout Meghalaya on Monday with the faithful offering special prayers at various Id-gahs across the State.In Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, large number of people, attired in traditional regalia thronged the beautiful glass-made Madina Masjid located in the Laban locality to offer namaz.

People exchanged greetings and sweets to mark the end of the Muslim’s holy month of Ramzan. In other parts of the city, Muslim community in thousands celebrated the festival with mass prayers, fanfare and gaiety, exchanging greetings and sweets.

Muslims in Nagaland too celebrated their biggest festival Eid Ul Fitr with mass prayers, exchanging greetings, gifts and feasting.

In Kohima, Eid Ul Fitr the Muslim community celebrated the main festival at the Kohima Jama Masjid, where thousands of Islamic followers joined the mass prayers. In Dimapur also mass prayers were held in two separate mosques.

Meanwhile, Nagaland Governor P B Acharya while greeting the Muslim community in Nagaland on the occasion of Eid Ul Fitr, expressed the hope that the sacred occasion will usher-in good will and further strengthen the values of composite society.

The festival of Idu’l Fitr marks the culmination of the Holy Month of ‘Ramzan’, the month of prayers, blessings and forgiveness.
