Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today said the impact of drought on wheat sowing in the country will not be that much. He said the impact which was expected to be 18-20 percent has come down to 7 percent so far.

The Minister said 93 species of different agricultural crops were developed in the last 18 months which helped in lowering the impact of drought and unseasonal rains in various parts of the country. Mr. Singh was talking to media on the release of first issue of Horticultural Statistics in New Delhi.
The Horticultural report presents a comprehensive picture of Indian horticulture sector covering diverse aspects including area, production and growth trends of horticultural crops. Mr. Singh said it will help the states in policy making for the sector besides reducing the production gap.
