Heavy rainfall lashed Delhi on Sunday, driven by a low-pressure system centered over southwest Uttar Pradesh. The downpour caused a sharp drop in temperatures, with the Safdarjung observatory recording a maximum of 27.6°C—6.5 degrees below normal—and 30 mm of rainfall over 24 hours. Humidity remained high at 98 percent.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the weather system will move east-northeastwards, continuing to trigger heavy isolated rainfall across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Looking ahead, Delhi’s weather is expected to transition into partly to generally cloudy skies over the coming days. Maximum temperatures will gradually climb back up to 33°C to 34°C, with minimums hovering around 24°C to 26°C through September 11. No severe weather warnings have been issued for the upcoming week.
The sudden showers provided a welcome respite from previous heat, drawing residents outdoors to enjoy the pleasant weather near India Gate, where children played and people jogged amidst the cooling rain.
