Benchmark equity indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, settled on a positive note on Wednesday. The 30-share Sensex settled at 81,526.14, up 16.09 points or 0.02 percent. The index traded in the range of 81,742.37 – 81,383.42 today.
The NSE Nifty50, on the other hand, ended higher by 31.75 points or 0.13 per cent at 24,641.80. Nifty50 was seen at a day’s high of 24,691.75, while the day’s low was quoted at 24,583.85.
26 out of the 50 constituent stocks of Nifty50 ended in the green, with gains led by Trent, Bajaj Finance, Britannia, Shriram Finance, and Hero MotorCorp, up to 2.50 per cent. Conversely, JSW Steel, Adani Ports, NTPC, State Bank of India, and Axis Bank were among the 23 stocks that ended lower, with a fall of up to 1.48 per cent. IndusInd Bank was notably the only stock among the Nifty constituents that ended on a flat note on Monday.
The broader market indices at the Bombay Stock Exchange ended in positive territory. The Mid-Cap index added 0.25 percent, and the Small-Cap index gained 0.35 percent.
In the Sensex index, 17 out of 30 companies logged losses. In the top laggards, JSW Steel shed 1.3 percent, Adani Ports fell over 1.2 percent, and NTPC dropped over 0.8 percent. Conversely, among the top gainers, Bajaj Finance surged over two and a half percent, Nestle climbed over 1.2 percent, and Bajaj Financial Services advanced 1.2 percent.
In sectoral indices at the BSE, 16 out of 20 sectors ended in positive territory. Among the top gainers, consumer durables gained over half a percent, industrials rose 0.4 percent, and autos added over 0.3 percent. Conversely, in the top laggards, Utilities, Power, and Bankex dipped over 0.3 percent, and Services was marginally down by 0.05 percent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,146 companies advanced and 1,840 declined while 110 remained unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 103 companies hit their 52-week high while 13 hit their 52-week low.
