The Congress plans to stage a massive protest in Delhi by the end of this month against the nationwide Summary Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, accusing the Election Commission (EC) of bias and voter exclusion.
The EC recently removed 47 lakh names during the Bihar SIR and has begun similar exercises in nine states and three union territories.
While the EC describes the process as a “purification” of rolls, the Congress-led INDIA bloc has termed it a “mass exclusion” drive allegedly carried out at the BJP’s behest.
Congress state units have collected over five crore signatures protesting the alleged manipulation of voter lists, which will be submitted to President Droupadi Murmu. The party’s rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Grounds will highlight these concerns.
AICC leaders said Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of “vote theft” in recent elections were ignored by the EC, despite support from INDIA bloc partners. “It’s the EC’s duty to ensure clean voter lists, not target opposition leaders.
Party sources said the Delhi rally may also include INDIA bloc allies to present a united front against the SIR and alleged electoral irregularities.
