Congress President Sonia Gandhi has said her party will continue to demand the resignations of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for extending help to former IPL Chief Lalit Modi. Mrs Gandhi also pressed for the resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for his role in Vyapam scam. Speaking at the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting this morning, she said, her party has been forced to take this position because of what she termed as the government’s completely brazen attitude. Mrs Gandhi alleged the NDA government has used its numerical strength as a source of arrogance rather than responsibility.

She added, Parliamentary majority does not give anyone a licence to evade accountability.

Saying that this is unacceptable to the opposition, the Congress President said, it is necessary to hold the government accountable.

She said, the Prime Minister is conspicuous by his deafening silence on the blatant transgressions by his External Affairs Minister and two Chief Ministers. At the meeting, Mrs Gandhi said, her party has been raising a very important issue with strong evidence, but Government is unwilling to take action in this regard and is trying to substitute investigation by mere discussion.

The Congress President took a dig at the NDA government for what she called adopting anti-farmer policies. She said, the government failed to increase the MSP, opening doors for large- scale imports of wheat.

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and senior party leaders, attended the meeting.
