Campaigning for Himachal Pradesh polls is in full swing. Elections to the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly will be held on Thursday. Campaigning will come to end on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said, the government is working to fulfill the aspirations of the people and it will ensure jobs for youth, healthcare for elderly and proper education for children.
Addressing a rally at Una town in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh, Mr Modi said, the future of the country depends on the speed of development for the last man in the queue. He said, the government will ensure that the money it releases is completely utilized for welfare of the people.
Slamming the Congress on the benami property issue, Mr Modi said that the party is worried that their property will be confisticated. He said, this is why the Congress is protesting on 8th November when demonetisation completes one year.
The Prime Minister asserted that post-demonetisation, at least three lakh companies came under the scanner adding that a sample survey of 5,000 companies was conducted and it was found that 4,000 crore rupees worth of black money was transacted. He said, he can only imagine what will happen if the transactions of all the companies are looked into.
On the Goods and Services Tax, the Prime Minister said, the country has warmly welcomed GST as it has immensely benefited the transport sector. He said, the government has addressed most of the issues related to GST, and the rest will resolved soon.
Mr Modi is scheduled to address rallies at Palampur and Kullu later today.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh addressed a rally at Shahtalai. He reiterated his government’s commitment to accelerate development works if his government came to power again.
Later, addressing a rally in Palampur, the Prime Minister said, the question is not of five years, it is about making the life of the people of Himachal. He lauded the efforts of former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar who brought waters to the people of the hill state.
Mr Singh is also scheduled to address rallies in various constituencies later today.
Meanwhile Shanta Kumar-PK Dhumal rivalry will probably damage BJP prospects — especially in politically sensitive Kangra district.
In 2012, the Congress party riding anti-incumbency had swept the region winning 12 seats out of 15 Assembly segments.
Pawan Kajal contesting from Kangra seat on Congress ticket is also the sitting legislator. Five years before he contested as independent candidate and had humbled Surendra Kaku of Congress.
