AFTER hectic political hangama, campaigning for final phase of assembly elections in Gujarat came to an end today.
As part of his campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled in the first sea plane to fly from river Sabarmati in Ahmedabad to Dharoi Dam in Mehsana district.
In a tweet, Mr Modi said it was a unique experience. He said it is a step towards the government’s resolve to harness waterways for India’s progress. Mr Modi said effective use of waterways augurs well for tourism.
He pointed out that places like Andaman and Nicobar islands, Lakshadweep, North East, places with many water bodies, big dams, waterways will benefit with usage of sea planes. He added that more tourism will also brings greater economic opportunities.
The Prime Minister said sea plane services can also be helpful during times of medical emergencies.
Meanwhile, Congress President elect Rahul Gandhi said the Prime Minister and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani have initiated only one-sided development in Gujarat in the last 22 years, and that too for only 5-10 people.
Addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad, Mr Gandhi said not everyone has been given their rights. He informed that his party started this journey four months ago and met all sections of Gujarat like farmers, traders, and ASHA workers.
He expressed confidence that Congress will win the assembly elections. Mr. Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he has stopped working for development.
A total of 851 candidates are in the fray for the final phase which will be held this Thursday.
