The human remains retrieved from the wreckage of an EgyptAir plane suggest that there was an explosion aboard before its crash in the Mediterranean Sea. Local media reports say that the preliminary examination of the body parts recovered from the sea found that they are in the same condition of those that have fallen free from the plane, and have not been preyed upon by sharks.
The final report of the forensic authority will unveil whether the explosion was caused by a bomb or other reasons. Last Thursday, EgyptAir flight 804 disappeared from radar screens while flying from Paris to Cairo with 66 people aboard, including 30 Egyptians and 15 French.
Meanwhile, family members of EgyptAir Flight 804 victims gave DNA samples to authorities yesterday to help identify body parts recovered from the Mediterranean. Investigators are still working to find out why the Airbus 320 jet vanished from radar. An Egyptian official said a total of 23 bags of body parts have been retrieved since Sunday.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said the largest of the body parts was no bigger than the palm of a hand. Egypt Aviation Minister Sherif Fathy has said a terrorist attack is a more likely cause of the crash than technical failure. No militant group has claimed to have carried out an attack.
