A full-term pregnant woman, grappling with life and death after testing positive for Covid-19 underwent Ceasarean delivery at the Jawhaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and the efforts of doctors bore fruits and a baby girl was born. She was refused admission to some hospitals before a frontline hospital of western UP, JNMC came to her rescue.
“The woman is recovering and the newborn is healthy. This surgery was required due to obstetrics reasons,” said Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui, Principal, JNMC.
He added that Vandana, suffering with Pregnancy Induced Hypertension was immediately taken into the Covid 19 isolation complex Operation Theatre (OT), where she was operated by consultant gynaecologists and obstetricians, Dr Enas and Dr Arzoo.
Prof Manazir (Consultant, Neonatology) and Dr Nazira (Resident, Paediatrics) said the baby girl weighing three Kgs and her mother are safe and doctors are taking all steps to see that the child does not contract coronavirus.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor appreciated the relentless services rendered by the doctors at JNMC. He expressed satisfaction on the recovery of Vanadana after the delivery.
JNMC, which has been declared as Level 2 Covid hospital to treat severe coronavirus patients is making sustained efforts to ensure that patients suffering from all health issues do not remain at the receiving end amid the pandemic, while ensuring that Covid patients are treated properly.
The Medical College continues to conduct free-of-cost coronavirus tests and has been running telemedicine facilities in various departments including the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology since the outbreak of the virus. Doctors are consulting patients through phone calls, video calls, whatsapp messages and emails.
