Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who arrived in Srinagar on a two day tour of Jammu and Kashmir, Friday visited the forward areas in the Valley to boost up moral of Indian soldiers. She was briefed about the robust counter infiltration posture along the Line of Control in north Kashmir region.

Sitharaman interacted with the troops and commended their dedication and commitment towards their duties in the challenging circumstances. This is her first visit to J&K after assuming the charge as Defence Minister.

Defence Minister accompanied by Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat visited the Chinar Corps in Badami Bagh Srinagar.
She was briefed about the prevailing security situation in the State by Northern Army Commander Lt Gen D Anbu and Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen J S Sandhu. Sitharaman was given an overview of the Counter Infiltration and Counter Militancy Operations undertaken in the recent past.

She appreciated the effectiveness of the intelligence and operational grids and commended the troops for the excellent operational successes which had contributed significantly towards a secure environment in the State.

Sitharaman complimented the army commanders for the high level of synergy achieved with the J&K Police and CAPF.
Later on Friday evening, Defence Minister had meeting with the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and also called on State Governor NN Vohra.

After overnight stay in Srinagar, she will visit forward posts along Line of Actual Control (LAC) neighboring China in Ladakh region and also visit world’s highest battlefield Siachen Glacier at an altitude of 5400 metres on Saturday.
