Former Gujarat Chief Minister of Gujarat and leader of Congress legislative party Shankarsinh Waghela has called Sam-Samvedana Samelan of Party MLAs in Gandhinagar today. However, Congress State leadership has asked all Congress MLAs and other office bearers not to attend convention call by Shankarsinh Waghela. Today’s Convention has been called on the occasion of birth day of Shankarsinh Waghela, however party’s internal sources believed that Mr. Waghela may announce breakup with congress in today’s meeting.
Shankarsinh Waghela is not happy with the internal party affairs. Mr.Waghela had already indicated that he had also expressed his displeasure regarding the workings of State Congress Unit to the party high command in Delhi.
Vaghela today said that freedom of expression can’t be scuttled in the democracy. He was referring to Congress’ instructions to prevent party MLAs from attending convention called on his birth day. He said that it is up to MLAs, that they want to join convention or not. Mr. Vaghela, however, did not open his cards about his next move which he is likely to announce during the today’s convention of his supporters. Though, he indicated that today will be the historic day in Gujarat politics.
According to sources, about 15 Congress MLAs are likely to quit Congress in support of Mr. Waghela. After cross voting in Congress during recent Presidential election, this move may hamper the prospects of Congress in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections also.
