In a novel idea, the government of India has decided to organise ‘SAAS BAHU SAMMELAN’ (Mother-in law—Daughter-in- law Conference) in different parts of the country to encourage birth control.

The idea coined by the Ministry of Health and Family has come following reports of unprecedented growth in population in 146 districts across the country.

Under the Mission Parivar Vikas ministry will organise SAAS BAHU SAMMELAN in these district on priority basis.

“SAAS BAHU SAMMELAN is aimed to facilitate improved communication between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law so as to bridge the gap in their attitudes and beliefs about reproductive and sexual health” informed ministry of health in an official release.

It also said that a family planning kit will be provided to the newly-wed couple by the ASHA to improve inter-spousal communication and consensual decision-making with regards to their “reproductive and sexual health as well as delay the birth of the first child and space the second”.
Special buses/vans equipped with communication material will also be mobilized during the Mission Parivar Vikas to generate and increase awareness as well as sensitize the community and disseminate family planning messages in far flung areas.

Union minister of Health and family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda today said that 146 district in the country have shown unprecedented population growth. These districts are in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Assam, Jharkhand and Rajasthan.
