
The situation in violence hit Mandsour district of Madhya Pradesh remained by and large peaceful today. Curfew was relaxed for women and children for two hours this evening to buy essential commodities. Just one incident of vandalizing a toll plaza was reported in the district today.
Police have taken over 60 persons in its custody in connection with violent incidents. Six farmers were killed in firing in Mandsour during farmers agitation on Tuesday.
The situation has also returned to normalcy in other districts including Neemuch where violent protests were reported yesterday. However Shajapur district witnessed violent protest by farmers today. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the district.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi accompanied with senior Congress leaders Digvijay Singh, Kamalnath, Mohan Prakash and JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav entered Madhya Pradesh via Udaypur of Rajasthan today.
He had come to meet the families of the deceased farmers in Mandsour. The district administration arrested him and later granted bail. Mr. Gandhi met the relatives of deceased at a village situated at Rajasthan border later in the evening. He alleged that while the Centre could waive off one lakh 50 thousand crore rupees of most wealthy persons, but could not waive off loan of farmers.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said that the state government will not let pulses’ prices fall to enable farmers to get full price of their produce. He said, onion at the rate of 8 rupees per kilogram will be purchased from the farmers and will be made available for poor consumers at the rate of 2 rupees per kilogram from PDS shops.
