People who wish to trek to the Amarnath shrine must furnish medical certificates and those below 13 or above 75 years of age will not be allowed to join the pilgrimage.
Besides, no woman more than six weeks pregnant will be registered for the pilgrimage. Amarnathji Shrine Board which conducts the annual pilgrimage has issued advisories which involves a trek at an altitude of 14 thousand feet.
It said, the pilgrims may develop high altitude sickness with symptoms like loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness and dizziness. This year Amarnathji Yatra will begin from 29th of this month and continue till 7th of August.
It has advised to start a preparatory morning or evening walk, about 4 to 5 kilometers per day, at least a month prior to the pilgrimage.
The Shrine Board also advised the pilgrims to start deep breathing exercise and Yoga, particularly pranayam for improving the body’s oxygen levels. Each pilgrim will need a pilgrimage permit, for which he or she will have to submit an application form and a compulsory health certificate.
