India’s Veteran journalist Dileep Padgaonkar passed away today in Pune. He was 72. He had been ailing for some time. He began his careerdilip-padgaonkar as a journalist in 1968 as The Times of India’s Paris correspondent.

After receiving a doctorate in humanities from the Sorbonne in June 1968, he joined the Times of India as its Paris correspondent.  He served the paper in various capacities before he was appointed its editor in 1988, a post he held for six years.

In between, from 1978 to 1986, he also worked with UNESCO in Bangkok and Paris.

He served as its editor for six years from 1988. From 1978 to 1986, he worked with UNESCO in Bangkok and Paris. Recently he was among the Kashmir introlocutors appointed by the UPA.

Padgaonkar was part of a three-member team of interlocutors appointed by the UPA government in 2010 to hold talks with all sections of people in Jammu and Kashmir.

Several prominent people and journalists have deeply mourned the demise of Padagaonkar

Indian Awaaz Team have deeply condoled the demise of Mr. Padagokar . In message editor Indian Awaaz said “India has lost a great, journalist, visionary and human being”.

Paying his respects, India Today TV’s Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai tweeted: “My first editor Dileep Padgaonkar, a man of culture and intellect, someone who encouraged young talent, has passed away. RIP.”

Senior journalist Siddharth Varadarajan said, “Just heard that my friend and former editor, Dileep Padgaonkar, passed away in Pune. Terrible loss, feel gutted.”
