PARLIAMENTBoth houses of Parliament were adjourned today after din over government decison of demonitisation. Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day as Oppisition stuck to its demand for debate on demonetisation under rule which entails voting.

When the House met at 1230 hours after its first adjournment, Opposition members including of Congress, TMC, RJD and SP demanded a discussion under relevant Rules, which entails voting.

Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress countered the government intention of having discussion under rule 193 saying it is of no use as it does not have the provision of voting.

Intervening in the matter, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said, government has already made it clear that it is ready to discuss the issue.

He said, the decision of the Narendra Modi government is being appreciated by the general public as it is a historic move.

Mr Kumar also sought cooperation from all members to fight against black money, corruption, fake currency and terror funding.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said she has already disallowed the adjournment motions given by different parties on the demonetization issue.

Not satisfied with the government’s suggestion of discussing the issue under rule 193, the opposition members trooped into the well and shouted slogans which forced the Speaker to adjourn the House for the day.

The Rajya Sabha too adjourned for the day after repeated adjournments several times. When the house reassembled at 2pm after lunch, the opposition members trooped into the well demanding presence of the prime minister in the house.

In the uproar caused by slogan shouting, minister of state for parliamentary affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi urged the agitated members to allow the discussion. but the members remained unrelenting forcing the chair to adjourn the house for an hour.

Congress members trooped into the well demanding the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the House to listen to the debate on demonetization.

AIADMK members also came into the well demanding the setting up of Cauvery Management Board. Earlier, Dereck O’ Brien of the TMC said the house should continue the discussion, which began yesterday, on demonetisation.

He wanted Prime Minister should be present in the House. Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu took a strong objection to the language used by the TMC member. He asked the Chair to ensure protection of institutions like prime minister.

The Deputy Chairman P J Kurien observed that members should maintain decorum. He also said the Chair will expunge relevant portions.
