cauvery_b_04-10-2012There are visible signs of fissures in the People’s Welfare Alliance, PWA over the Cauvery issue in Tamil Nadu. The opposition DMK has called for all party meeting on Cauvery tomorrow. The AIADMK, the PMK and the BJP have rejected the invitation. The Left parties and the Vaiko-led MDMK, who are part of the PWA, have also said they would not participate in it.

However, the Tamil Maanila Congress leader and former Union Minister GK Vasan, who was part of the PWA during the recent Assembly General Election, has announced that he would participate in the DMK-led meet tomorrow.

The Viduthalai Chiruththaigal Katchi leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, whose party is one of the four core members of the PWA, in his media briefing in Chennai said he discussed with his party’s senior colleagues about participating in the DMK-led all party meet. He informed that his party views Cauvery imbroglio as a core issue being faced by the people and prefers to express a united voice.

He added that he would consult other party leaders in the Alliance about their combined participation. The development comes ahead of polling for three Assembly seats scheduled for next month and the local body elections by the end of this year. Meanwhile, the BJP leader and Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan and MDMK leader Vaiko criticized the DMK of not taking any effort to form the Cauvery Management Board while in power at the Centre.

Mr Vaiko said the DMK does not have any moral right to convene the meet tomorrow. However, the state Congress chief Su.Thirunavukkarasar claimed that only during the UPA Government the interim and final awards of the Cauvery Tribunal were notified in Government Gazette. He blamed the BJP Government at the Centre of not making efforts for the formation of the Cauvery Management Board though the Supreme Court asked it to form the panel.
