At least 43 civilians have been killed in air strikes on a town in the suburbs of Damascus, a day after the execution of a Syrian air force pilot, a monitoring group has said.

Saturday’s overnight shelling on Jayrud, near the capital Damascus, killed at least five women and children and two medical staff. Head of Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman, said scores of people were also wounded in the strikes and the bombardment was the first in at least two years.
