The Aligarh Muslim University AMU has expelled 11 students and suspended 17 others for indulging in anti social and anti academic activities.
The action has been taken after a probe into the incidents of arson and firing at Proctor’s office and at other places two months ago in which two persons were killed.
AMU Proctor Mohammad Mohsin Khan said that action has been taken after the recommendation of the disciplinary committee of the university.
Two persons were killed in a violent clash between rival groups of students inside the Aligarh Muslim University campus on April 22-23.
After the clash, a mob, allegedly comprising out-siders torched the proctor’s office and vandalised the dean students’ welfare (DSW) office in the campus.
The Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University has ordered a judicial probe into the incident of rioting and arson on the campus by a group of students and some “outsiders” in April this year.
Shah assigned it to Justice (retd) Imtiyaz Murtaza and asked him to submit the report within a month.
Justice Murtaza, who retired from the Allahabad High Court, is also heading the one-man committee formed to probe the June 2 Mathura violence in which 29 people, including two senior police officers, were killed.
