A meeting of the sixteen member full bench, led by CEC Nasim Zaidi, of the Election Commission is right now on in Kolkata. Having met representatives of all political parties separately last night after arriving in the city on Monday evening, the Commission in the morning today reviewed the district-wise reports on election preparations and law and order scene from DMs and SPs on north Bengal before summoning in the officials of south Bengal districts. Later today, the Commission will separately sit with top administrative and Police officials of the state.
The opposition parties, including BJP, CPIM and Congress demanded strict action against the TMC leaders, allegedly caught on a video sting, removal of outgoing CM and imposition of Presidential rule and deferment of elections, already ensued, till the probe is done.
The TMC chairperson Ms. Mamata Banerjee, questioning the time of the release of the alleged sting footage, termed it false and aimed at her party when it is facing fresh elections to return to power.
BJP and CPI-M also submitted copies of the alleged video sting. The CEC and fellow Election Commissioners are in West Bengal to review the preparedness for the six-phased assembly elections in the state beginning April 4.
