Home Minister Rajnath Singh today defended his colleague, Minister of State for Human Resource Development Prof. Ram Shankar Katheria, saying he has not made any inflammatory speech in Agra, as alleged by opposition benches.
Replying to a Calling Attention Motion by Opposition Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad in Rajya Sabha, Rajnath Singh said, if Prof. Katheria had made any such speech, Agra Police would have registered a case against him along with three others, who have booked on charges of alleged communal statement.
Earlier in a statement, the Home Minister said government is opposed to all statements or speeches that divide the country on the basis of religion, caste or creed. Initiating the Calling Attention Motion, Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress alleged, such statements show the double standard of NDA government – one agenda for government and another for the party. He said sedition charges should have been registered against Prof. Katheria.
