42 persons were injured when five compartments of Chennai Mangalore Express derailed in the wee hours of today. The injured persons have been admitted in Vridhachalam government hospital.
Railway authorities and Cuddalore district collector Suresh Kumar have rushed to Poovanur accident spot.
The express train which left Chennai Egmore last night met with the accident near Vridhachalam Poovanur at around 2 AM.
Two general compartments in the rear side of the train derailed completely and came off the tracks and three AC compartments were partially derailed.
In the pitch darkness locals helped to save the passengers and the injured were taken to Vridhachalam government hospital.
The five compartments have been detached and the train is proceeding towards Mangalore.
